Ergonomics in using your laptop for long hours

Normally a laptop is a portable computer to be used anywhere outside your normal workstation, however if your laptop is the only computer at home then you better have an ergonomics environment designed for it if you are going to use it for long hours. In the above picture you can see my laptop at home, now you can also see a good chair with lumbar support for my lower back, a mouse pad with wrist support and my laptop is using an accessory which places the screen at the same level of my face. Otherwise I would be working like this:

The Dark Knight movie review

I just came from seeing The Dark Knight movie  and boy! forget about the Batman and the joker of the 60s (playing now the Batman TV theme lol)  which was mainly for kids (well not for me as my favourite TV hero back then was the Green Hornet), this Batman movie is only for adults. Even, the first Batman movie (1989) which  was more style than substance and Jack Nicholson kept the main characteristics of the TV's joker but added some of his own to make it unforgettable, instead Heath Ledger plays it totally different with a great performance that many critics are anticipating a post mortem Oscar for him. This Dark Knight movie has a lot of substance with an adult thematic and still plenty of action scenes, I really enjoyed and highly recommend it. Have you seen a good movie lately?

PS: Congratulations to Miss Venezuela for winning the Miss Universe pageant !

FreeHostia Free webhosting service

FreeHostia is a web hosting service which has a free option as long as you don't need more of of 250Mb of space and 5Gb of bandwidth every month. I am using it to host my online movie collection and I can say that it is a reliable service. Click here and select its free plan to have a go. If you need a free host for a website then I highly recommend it :). Let's see if the joke below make you smile ;)

Life without Computer:

An application was for employment

A program was a TV show

A cursor used profanity

 A keyboard was a piano!

Memory was something that you lost with age

A CD was a bank account And if you had a 3 ½ inch floppy, You hoped nobody found out!

Compress was something you did to garbage, not something you did to a file And if you unzipped anything in public, you'd be in jail for awhile! LOL

PS: I will be back blogging in two weeks but in the mean time I will be replying comments.

Original Poem: Open your Heart

When you feel sad
Open your heart
Find a writing pad
And make a fine art

If you see a sad face
Open your heart
Like a holy place
And make a smile

When you walk around
Open your heart profound
Enjoy the landscape
With all its beauty shapes

Even with anger
Be smart
Open your heart
And see the change

B$ still my favourite online game!

I am back although I feel I still need some renewal lol anyway while I was on hiatus I spent some time in  BlogShares and advanced quite a bit in its ranking (currently in position 29 overall) . Believe me, this game is a lot of fun!  you should try (click here if you want to join). I have my own community  in a Corporation called The Bar ;) and below one of the jokes coming from there:

Speechless Joke

A farmer named Seamus had a car accident.

In court, the lorry company's hot-shot solicitor was questioning Seamus.

'Didn't you say to the Police at the scene of the accident, 'I'm fine?' asked the solicitor.

Seamus responded: 'Well, I'll tell you what happened. I had just loaded my favorite cow, Bessie, into the...'

'I didn't ask for any details', the solicitor interrupted. 'Just answer the question. Did you not say, at the scene of the accident, 'I'm fine!'?'

Seamus said, 'Well, I had just got Bessie into the trailer and I was driving down the road....'

The solicitor interrupted again and said, 'Your Honour, I am trying to establish the fact that, at the scene of the accident, this man told the police on the scene that he was fine. Now several weeks after the accident, he is trying to sue my client. I believe he is a fraud. Please tell him to simply answer the question.'

By this time, the Judge was fairly interested in Seamus's answer and said to the solicitor: 'I'd like to hear what he has to say about his favourite cow, Bessie'.

Seamus thanked the Judge and proceeded.

'Well as I was saying, I had just loaded Bessie, my favourite cow, into the trailer and was driving her down the road when this huge lorry and trailer came through a stop sign and hit my trailer right in the side. I was thrown into one ditch and Bessie was thrown into the other. I was hurt, very bad like, and didn't want to move. However, I could hear old Bessie moaning and groaning. I knew she was in terrible shape just by her groans. Shortly after the accident, a policeman on a motorbike turned up. He could hear Bessie moaning and groaning so he went over to her. After he looked at her, and saw her condition, he took out his gun and shot her between the eyes.

Then the policeman came across the road, gun still in hand, looked at me, and said, 'How are you feeling?'

'Now what the F*ck would you say?' LOL

On hiatus!

I am getting busier at work and also I am in the search of a few ideas to blog about it so I am taking a month of leave to renew my energies ;). The leave is only  related to posting new entries here but I will be responding comments and of course participating in my movie trivia tournament which starts on 2nd of June (Australian time, the 1st for US and Canada) . Now, let's keep the entertainment rolling in this Space with a few of dancing jokes:

"Never dance with a vampire because they suck!"

"It so cool to be a dancer because nobody can tell you off for having too much attitude"

There was a dance teacher who talked of a very old dance called the Politician. "All you have to do" she told her class "is take three steps forward, two steps backward, then side-step side-step and turn around.

LMAO

PS: Thanks to the lovely Xena who made the Disco animation picture, in the table, two years ago :)

PS2: Join my movie trivia tournament if you have not done so by clicking here, you  can start practicing from now for our big event on June ;)

Blade Runner: The Director's Final Cut

I saw this movie in the theatre for first time on 1982  and I liked it because it was visually stunning but the plot even for a science fiction buff like myself was a bit confusing. Now the Director's (Ridley Scott)  final cut, made for DVD on 2007, has the plot clearer and the visual special effects still  look  awesome!  Superficially the movie is about Deckard (Harrison Ford)  a police man of the future (2019) who hunts down and terminates replicants (Blade Runner). The replicants are supposed to do jobs dangerous for humans in Space and are not allowed on Earth , their span life  are only 4 years and in that sense 4 of them get into Earth in the search to override that and live longer so this film in a more deep view is about what is to be human and what makes  life  so precious. I highly recommend this final cut even if you have seen the original picture :)

PS: In other order of ideas, It was very sad news to know that our Space friend Dee passed away, my deepest sympathies and may she rest in peace ! You can leave a message for her family here

Browser spell checkers

First  the Internet made the computer cool by enabling you to see information only either rich or very important person could see before, now web 2.0  made the computer cooler by allowing you to leave comments and interact with those who publish information in other words you write on the net  to  publish information and/or comment on others and here is where we need an spell checker lol and we need it in the browser we use:
For IE7 users you can download
ieSpell which is a free Internet Explorer browser extension that spell-checks text-input boxes on a Web page. Even if your Web application already includes spell-checking functionality, this utility is faster than a server-side solution. Plus, you get to store and use your personal word list across all your applications instead of having to maintain separate ones on each application.
For Firefox 2 users have not problems as this browser has in-line spell checker (after right clicking the first time to download the dictionary to use).

PS: We are having a lot of fun with the daily movie quiz, click here to join us :)

My own movie trivia tournament!

I just created my own movie trivia/quiz tournament, you only has to spend around a minute a day to answer 10 questions, this month is for warming up to compete for a beautiful trophy, designed by the talented Xena, on the month of June which will be personalized with your name. Click here to join and to start practicing for the big event on June.

It is almost Friday here in Devil's land so here we go with a movie related joke:

For the first time in many years, an old man travelled from his rural town to the city to attend a movie. After buying his ticket, he stopped at the concession stand to purchase some popcorn. Handing the attendant $2.50, he couldn't help but comment, "The last time I came to the movies, popcorn was only 15 cents." "Well, sir," the attendant replied with a grin, "You're really going to enjoy yourself. We have sound now." lol

PS: Movie Trivia game will be closed on Australian weekends (Friday & Saturday for US & Canada)

A wiki about free online tools

A wiki is a computer software often used to create collaborative websites , the best example is the highly successful Wikipedia, now  guess what? I created one, last year, with the goal of having a great directory of free online tools which are useful for your Live Space :

http://live-spaces-tools.wikispaces.com/

If you have not seen it yet, then check it out and let me know your opinion, If you join in then you will be able to add new pages and participate in discussions about the wiki itself or about any free tool. I already added a few   and I will keep adding more down the track. However, it will not become a great and useful resource only with my input but with the effort of all. Thus, any new page contribution and/or linking will be highly appreciated, no only for me but at the end of the day,  for the whole Live Spaces community ;).

In other order of ideas, my cool Space friend Kathy just updated her blog with new information and particularly about a cute Teddy bear of her making. Click here to pay her a visit and if you do then tell her that I sent you ;)

PS: Once again, thanks to Xena for the cool wiki logo :)

Indiana Jones 4 and Brillante Blog Award

I love the Indiana Jones films of the 80s and the show in Universal Studios in Florida and LA theme parks are awesome! , guess what? after almost 20 years we have another Indy's film, the number 4 of the series. "Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the Crystal Skull" is set on 1957 , Harrison Ford plays an older Indiana Jones with a grown up son ( Shia Labeouf) and will be released on US Memorial day (Last Monday of May) , 2008 . Karen Allen comes back reprising her role of  Marion Ravenwood of the original movie but now Indy is entangled with Soviet spies that includes Cate Blanchet lol. Well I can hardly wait myself to see it. What about you?

In other order of ideas, the Space One World gave me the award below:

Thanks a lot! I am supposed to pass it to other 7 Spaces and that is a very difficult task so I am giving it to every one who comes here as every time I return a visit I always get amazed of all the hard work and creativity of the Space :)

Chocolate

The word chocolate comes from the Aztecs in Mexico and they associated it with the God of fertility, no wonder where these aphrodisiac legends come from lol. Now, Chocolate comes from the Cacao tree  which is native of South America, so there is a relationship between chocolate and myself lmao!. Finally some scientific research shows that dark chocolate eaten in moderation ( no more than a daily Hershey's kiss) reduce the blood pressure without gaining weigh ;). More here. What is your favourite chocolate?

Stranded in a deserted tropical island

Before the joke I would like to write why today selection, well basically after some teasing from some of my female buddies, in regarding the Spacers who leave comments here, I decided to search on a joke which is set in an environment where there are more men than women, so here is what I found:

There is a beautiful deserted island in the middle of nowhere where the following people are stranded:

* 2 Italian men and 1 Italian woman
* 2 French men and 1 French woman
* 2 German men and 1 German woman
* 2 English men and 1 English woman
* 2 Irish men and 1 Irish woman

ONE MONTH LATER on the beautiful deserted island in the middle of nowhere:

* The 1st Italian man killed the other for the Italian woman.....
* The 2 French men and the French woman are living happily together in a "menage a trois"....
* The 2 German men have a rigid weekly schedule of when they alternate with the German woman....
* The 2 English men are waiting for someone to introduce them to the English woman....
* The Irish began by dividing their island Northside-Southside and setting up a distillery. They don't remember if sex was in the picture, because it got sort of foggy after the first few litres of coconut-whiskey, but at least they know the English aren't getting any! LMAO!

The Queen Elizabeth 2 liner

The longest Ocean liner (1132 ft/345 Meters long) and second largest sea ship ever built (2003) after  "Freedom of the seas" (2006)  is arguably the most famous (named after HM Queen Elizabeth 2) . According the Cunard website (owner of the ship) , It contains 13 spacious decks to carry 2592 guests on which to relax and unwind; to indulge in pleasures and pursuits you never normally have time for. Opulent public areas, extravagant dining rooms, ballrooms, theatres, lounges...even the only Planetarium at sea lol.
This liner was in Sydney last year and reminded me, by watching it on the news, a cruise I did in the Caribbean sea when I was 12 years old which I enjoyed very much. Have you ever been in a cruiser/liner yourself?

The Reflet Freeware software

Reflet (click here to download it)  is a freeware program written by Antonio Da Cruz (second cousin of Xena) useful to make reflections of your pictures as shown in this table. It is a walk in the park to use it, just crop any picture half of the final desired size after reflection, open it in reflet, click the movie the icon and then export it. This was the very first graphic tip that Xena showed me , two years ago, and I wanted to bring it to this Space too as I have been asked many times before about it. For the ones who did not know it, enjoy!

Horoscope signs...

I find these Horoscope signs entertaining, to say the least. I was born on the 31st of August, so I am Virgo, the general characteristic of this sign are to  be methodical, industrious and with attention to the detail , high sense of duty, we are also known in fact-finding as well as fair and balanced in our assessments. All these general characteristics sound good to me. Now I found in Blogthings a quiz in what sign I should be:

What Sign Should You Be?

and I turned out to be Capricorn lol, so I went to the Net to find out the general characteristic of this Sign, which are: Hard workers, ambitious and determined, goals oriented, efficient, organized and won't make a lot of waves. I find these characteristics a bit similar to the ones for Virgo so I can understand why it missed my real sign. Any way have a go to see what you get lol.

Now I installed the Horoscope gadget in my Space and since then  I have tried to see if it is useful in any way such as prediction of things to come and how to deal with it for my daily life, so I have been reading it almost everyday and my conclusion for this particular gadget is that it is..
